About
our Beginners Course
Perhaps you've never shot a bow before or maybe you've had a go at archery
at an activity day or while on holiday. Either way we welcome adults and
juniors (8 years +) who just want to try out archery or are already keen to take
it up.
Our instructors will teach you the right technique and ensure that you know how
to shoot safely. We'll also tell you all about target archery including
* safety, etiquette and the rules of shooting
* shooting rounds and scoring
* the handicap and classification scheme
We provide all the equipment you'll need for the course, so please don't buy any
until you've had our advice.
Starting date and time
Our beginners courses take place on Tuesday evenings through the summer.
We meet promptly at 6.30pm on the archery range at
Wirral RUFC Thornton Common Road (click here for directions). We then continue with beginner's and improver
courses on Tuesdays right throughout the summer.
Duration of the course
The course consists of 6 lessons each 2 hours. If it's necessary to cancel
a lesson or if you know in advance that you'll miss a particular week (e.g if
you are holiday), then it can be made up later. If you are unable to attend a
particular lesson please let us know beforehand. We can't accept beginners into
the Club unless they have attended at all the 6 lessons.
If we need to postpone an evening then we will contact you, or let you know the
week before.
Cost
The fee for the six weeks is £24 or £5 per week. This is discounted for pre
payment of the whole course fee.
Clothing
You should wear comfortable but close-fitting clothing. If it's chilly it's
better to wear several thin layers rather than one bulky one. In particular
it's important that you don't wear jumpers or jackets with baggy sleeves, as the
bowstring tends to catch on them and spoil your shot!
Notes
We encourage juniors from 8 upwards to shoot and there is no upper age
limit. We can accommodate most disabilities and archery is a sport open to
all. Parents of juniors under 16 yrs should stay with their children during the
course and will be encouraged to participate on the course.
