Indoor Season Returns

We are now about to return indoors for the winter season and can confirm that the first session will be on Wednesday 6th October 2009.  The indoors venue is booked from October to the end of March 2011 on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.

On Sundays the period of shooting will be split into 2 sessions with beginners and improvers from 12:00-2:00pm with coaching provided on request, followed by a session from 2:00-4:00pm for archers including coaching team to shoot.

We will also be entering the Cheshire Indoor Postal League this season and members will be encouraged to shoot the Bray round for this purpose. 2 Compound teams and 1 recurve team will be entered this year.

Wednesday shooting tends to be tight for space behind the shooting line so please take care.

We shoot indoors in the gymnasium at Pensby High School for Boys on Irby Road between Heswall and Irby

Times in winter (2010 / 2011) are: Wednesday 7:00pm to 9:00pm Sundays 12:00 to 2:00pm and 2:00 to 4:00pm ( two 2 hour sessions )

We are also coaching Pensby Stepping Out Group on the following dates and archery will be available at a reduced rate for a few on the following dates 23 October, 20 November, 11 December, 15 January, 12 February, 12 March

Tri Clout Tournament

Following previous reports that the Tri Clout event may be affected by the car parking issue I can confirm it will take place as advertised.  See the entry form on our events page for August 28 - 30th.

**** Further Car Park Update / All Members Please Read ****

Please see the following updated message from Malcolm concerning the 'new' carpark

Until we can discuss the situation with the sec of Wirral Rugby it is essential that we do not upset the committee. Parking in the access area adjacent to the gate, on the road seems to upset local residents and rugby are sensitive to this. Also climbing over the gates and fences seems to create some issues.

We hope to resolve this with a meeting shortly and establish why the pedestrian gate has also been locked.

However having walked to the normal shooting area from the 2 gates the access from the main club car park is only 12 paces further than from the field gate.

As both gates field and pedestrian gates are locked at the moment it is probable easier for all to gain access to the archery area from the main car park and walk round the pathway.

As disabled may struggle to get all their equipment round by this route we would as if assistance be afforded to them from able bodied members.

Not sure if it would assist if we had each others mobile numbers so we can contact each other to request assistance.

The car park is now seeded and the hope is that the area can be available for parking in a couple of months

**** Car Park Update / All Members Please Read ****

Please see the following message from Malcolm concerning the 'new' carpark

Over the next few weeks / month the Rugby club are to undertake surface preparation works on the stoned car park area

This will mean during this period the car park will be out of use for all , for parking or access to the fields.

The area is to be soiled and then seeded and once the grass has grown the surface will be covered with a matting to allow vehicles to park without damage to the surface.

This is to comply with conditions relating to the Planning Application and should have been completed some time ago, and will present a green surface finish to the area.

With this in mind we are looking at relocating archery  to the top field using the original container equipment so disabled can park in the gate access splays and be close to the shooting area. Both areas for shooting will still be used with the main area affected being access for the disabled

Also until the matter is resolved we propose to postpone the Club Championships planned for the 3 July until access in resolved.

Any queries I should be down on Sunday to discuss. please note parking on the stoned car park OK for this Sunday as work to start on Monday, and also Bikers Rally on the front car park area.

The Tri Clout event is also affected and we are looking at alternatives.

Summers Here so Clouts Appear

What can I say, the Cheshire clout shoots at Neston continue to be a big hit.  The FITA Clout took place last Monday 3rd May on what was a dry but windy day and its popularity seems to keep increasing.  This year there was a fantastic 116 archers taking part from all over the country.

Well done to all archers that took place in particular Helen Porter, Viv Guthrie and Victoria Mara all becoming the Cheshire Champions in their divisions.  Full results can be seen here..FITA Clout results

Photos of the days shoot can be found here http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Photogrog/CAAFITACloutNeston03052010?feat=directlink

Don't forget the Tri Clout Tournament on the August bank holiday (see events page).

Neston Compound Shows Strength in Depth

For the second year in a row the Neston Compound team went through the winter season undefeated in the Cheshire Winter League.  Thanks to a sensible rule change this year they were rightly crowned Division 1 Champions.  Well done to all those whose scores went towards this result, again showing that Neston Company of Archers has great strength in depth with their compound archers.

Cheshire County Team

Congratulations to the following archers who all qualified to represent Cheshire at this weekends county trials - Carol Morris-Lewis, Malcolm Lewis, Mark Bathgate, Graeme Steele and Richie Mellor.  This again shows the strength of Neston Archers, only thing we really need is more recurve Well done to all keep up the good work.
