Tis The Season To Be Jolly..................make archery fun (2)

Just a reminder that the club fun shoot will be this Sunday 13th December from 12-4

All members are invited with a range of activities.  For some reason kids of all ages love to shoot balloons, that includes the kids over thirty !

Tis The Season To Be Jolly..................make archery fun (1)

You don't have to take archery too seriously all the time, particularly if you get those 20yd indoor blues, there are ways to make it a little more fun.  Take for example the recent 'World Championships' between Jim Streets and Judith Creswell.  Ok not the real World Champs but a competition between two archers over 5 weeks which saw Judith crowned champion.  The idea is basically find someone of similar ability (or slightly better) and challenge them to a series of light hearted shoots, if you feel its required have a little prize at the end.  By doing this you have some good banter and learn to compete head to head which focuses your skills.

Summer's Over (Indoor News)

What do you mean you didn't know it had started ???

Sadly the outdoor season for most of us is coming to an end and its time to go back indoors.  We are again indoors at Pensby High School for Boys shooting on Wednesdays and Sundays starting from the 4th October.

We will be changing from Tuesday to Wednesday evening 7-9pm for the midweek sessions

Sunday will be the same times with two sessions but we will not be running beginners to leave more space for club members on the session of their choice.  See about us for times.

Message From Malcolm for Current Shooting Outdoors

As the evenings are drawing in Rugby will require the use of the floodlights for training and we will need to move to the old container area adj to the stoned car park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as from 27 Aug this Thursday.

Equipment will need to be sorted with some bosses etc brought round from the new container.

Sunday shooting will continue on the normal shooting area.

However from 6 Sept 2009 Rugby Minis and Juniors will be taking place and no shooting will be undertaken until they finish around 12:30.

As the car parks and highways will be full of cars there will be little opportunity to park so it is recommended that archers do not try to come to the grounds until rugby parents have left , say from 12:45 on

***ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ***

Please note the conditions below that were put on the approval to the stoned car park area.

Please in all circumstances during the week use the main club car park.

This is a Planning Condition and if breached the club could be taken to court.

At weekends the stoned car park can be used as per the times on the gate:-

12noon and 4pm on Saturdays

and 10am and 5pm on Sundays

Summer Shooting Home and Away

Summer often means archers from Neston are found shooting far and wide at various events, those archers who chose to stay relatively local produced some good results for the club.

At the Chester FITA on the 5th of July Viv Guthrie & Carol Morris-Lewis both came 1st in the longbow and ladies compound respectively with Mark Bathgate coming 2nd in the gents compound.

The following weekend at the Wirral Archers Open it was 1st's all the way for Callum Rudge, Richie Mellor and Mark Bathgate in the junior boys compound, gents recurve and gents compound respectively.

Again well done to all the archers who shot at these events and especially to the above for being placed and representing the club so well.

Jim's Bluff to Run In The Buff

Neston C of A Club Champs are not taken too seriously by most archers and when Jim Street threatened to run round the field naked if he won anything most archers just laughed it off.  Thankfully for the rest of us and any passing strangers Jim's streaking ambitions were just a 'bare faced lie' as he picked up the highest placed veterans award.

Award winners on the day were:-

Overall h/c Trophy Jacqui Mara, Ellesmere Port and Neston h/c Shield Keith Gardner

Awards based on Score

Senior Recurve Richie Mellor, Senior Compound Mark Bathgate, Junior Recurve Victoria Mara, Junior Compound Callum Rudge, Under 12 Junior Tommy Fells, Veteran Jim Street, Longbow Viv Guthrie, Best Gold Tommy Fells, Most Petticoats Andy Sawyer, Most Golds Mark Bathgate & Tommy Fells, 25 Trophy Steve Povey & Toxophilus Book Award Viv Guthrie

Well done to all those who took part on what was a good fun days shooting.

The Futures Bright, The Futures 'Neston'

Neston Juniors made the club proud with a strong display at the CCB Junior shoot at the end of May.  In the Junior National category Victoria Mara came 1st in girls recurve with Callum Rudge placing 1st in the boys compound.  In the Short Junior national Thomas Fells came 1st in the boys compound, but the shoot of the day against some very stiff opposition goes to Oliver Topliss who came a very creditable 2nd in boys recurve.  Well done to all those who took part it was a fantastic achievement and bodes well for the future of Neston Archers.

March Winds, April Showers Bring Forth a Wet and Windy May !

On a typical British summer day in mid May two Neston archers managed first place at the Bebington Western.  Well done to Mark Bathgate and Victoria Mara in gents compound and junior girl recurve.

County Archers

Congratulations to the following archers for qualifying for the Cheshire County Squad, Carol Morris-Lewis, Malcolm Lewis, Graeme Steel, Richie Mellor and Helen Porter.  Well done Helen for your first time qualifying.

Honours Even in the Chocolate Wars

As usual the drive to win was intensified for Neston when chocolate was available as prizes at the annual Corus Bunny Shoot and results showed the level of shooting at Neston is very close.  The top four places in the gents compound were all taken by Neston archers with Graeme Steele and Mark Bathgate tied for 1st place, Malcolm Lewis and Steve Povey followed in 3rd and 4th.  Although 1st slipped through their grasp Steve Morris and Richie Mellor tied for 2nd place in the gents recurve.  Carol Morris-Lewis and Helen Porter came 1st and 2nd in the ladies compound with James Mellor 1st in the junior gents recurve.  Roll on next year, well we will be rolling if we keep eating chocolate !

A Busy Saturday for Neston

Saturday 21st February......yes not Sunday,  provided a busy but successful day for Neston Archers.

Malcolm and Carol continue their good start to the year at the National Indoor Championships at Lilleshall.  They both shot consistently well to be part of the Cheshire Team that came 2nd in the county trophy.

On the same day North Wales Indoor took place with Neston represented by several archers and several awards gained.  Viv Guthrie came 1st in the lady longbow double Portsmouth, and achieved 2nd visiting lady longbow at the same time for the single round.  Neston continued to show its compound strength in depth with Helen Porter taking 2nd in the visiting lady compound.  Mark Bathgate went one better with 1st in the visiting gents compound, supported by Graeme Steele who came 3rd visiting gents compound.  In the juniors Victoria Mara continued to produce good results with 1st in the junior lady recurve and Callum Rudge put in a good display for 2nd in the junior gents compound.  Well done to all.

Its Cold Outside but Neston Blow Hot Indoors

Chester indoors provided Neston Archers with some more good results at both the individual and team events.  Saturday in the individual was a day of 2nds, with Carol Morris-Lewis, Linsay Lawrence and Victoria Mara all 2nd in ladies compound, barebow and junior girl recurve respectively.  Also on Saturday a personal best was shot by Judith Cresswell

On the Sunday team event the compound A team (self proclaimed A team) came 1st, comprising of Malcolm Lewis, Carol Morris-Lewis, Mark Bathgate and Graeme Steele.  The other compound team came a very creditable 7th.  On an individual basis Carol came 1st (new Cheshire record) with Helen Porter 2nd in the ladies compound.  Mark Bathgate was 3rd in the gents compound, Richie Mellor 4th in the gents recurve and Victoria Mara 2nd in the junior girls recurve.  Personal bests were also shot by Steve Povey and Robert Spinks.  Well done to all over the weekend.

2009 Off To A Compound Double

Orrell Archers annual Portsmouth provided two Neston Archers with a great start to the new year.  As always Carol Morris-Lewis maintained her high standards and ranked 1st Lady Compound trophy winner.  Keeping it in the family Malcolm Lewis was joint 1st Gents Compound winner, to those that know Malcolm he is always a quality archer with a very laid back approach but having watched him down the club lately and with this result I feel he has upped his game.  2009 a year for both archers in the Lewis household?? watch this page.
